US government agrees to settle Native Americans lawsuit - 09 December 09

The US government has agreed to pay more than bn to settle a long-standing lawsuit over the management of native American land. If cleared by congress and a federal judge, it would be the largest such claim ever approved, creating an important step for reconciliation. Kimberly Halkett reports.

Shell settles Nigerian killings lawsuit - 9 June 09

Royal Dutch Shell has been accused of supporting the execution and torture of protesters opposed to its operations in Nigeria during the 1990s. As a lawsuit against the company over the issue was due to go to trial in New York, the oil company agreed to settle out of court, paying .5m to the families of executed activists. Al Jazeera’s Andrew Simmons reports.
