Utilities now face an EPA that is taking its responsibilities seriously. So theyre forecasting doom, filling legislators; heads with scare stories, and planning lawsuits.

We humans have the capacity to create structures that don’t require - or in fact produce - electricity, habitat and food. I believe all new buildings should be held to the highest possible efficiency standards and should give back as much as possible to the environment - aka Cradle to Cradle.

We also need a big push to change our culture of reckless consumption to that of stewardship (to that end, I encourage you to be sure your governments and businesses treat you as such). We must have faith that our small actions add up to big benefits.

I also believe that we need to utilize the power of the sun and wind for our electricity needs. Why? Because they are truly infinite, clean sources of power.

Human beings have always altered the earth. We will continue to do so. As a friend of mine says “If you want to truly be zero impact, hang yourself nude in the forest with a biodegradable rope. Some compromises have to be made.”

We do not, however, have to alter our home to the point of our own…
